Climb Chimborazo – High Camp Summit Expedition

Climb Chimborazo with a professional mountain guide on a challenging 2-day, 1-night summit expedition in Ecuador. Rising to 6,263 meters (20,548 feet), Chimborazo is Ecuador’s highest mountain and one of the most demanding high-altitude climbs in the Ecuadorian Andes.

This guided Chimborazo climbing expedition is designed for physically fit mountaineers with previous high-altitude experience, proper acclimatization, and familiarity with crampons and ice axes. The ascent follows glaciated terrain, requiring rope travel, technical mountaineering equipment, and careful decisions based on weather and mountain conditions.

Your expedition begins in Machachi, our operational base along Ecuador’s Avenue of the Volcanoes. We coordinate transportation, mountain logistics, professional guiding, and the preparation required for your summit attempt.

During this 2-day Chimborazo climb, you travel to the mountain, prepare your technical equipment, and rest before beginning the overnight ascent. The summit attempt starts around midnight or shortly afterward, depending on conditions and the guide’s assessment. The climb to the summit typically takes several hours, followed by the descent to the refuge and return transportation.

Chimborazo is famous for being the point on Earth’s surface farthest from the planet’s center, due to the Earth’s equatorial bulge. Reaching its summit is a demanding mountaineering achievement and an unforgettable experience in Ecuador.

Important: Reaching the summit is never guaranteed. Weather, glacier conditions, altitude-related symptoms, and the guide’s safety assessment may require a change of plan or an early descent. Appropriate acclimatization and previous glacier-climbing experience are essential.

Book your guided Chimborazo summit expedition with Ecuador Ascents and prepare for one of Ecuador’s most challenging mountain adventures.
